Nicholas Trobetas has a wide ranging practice with extensive experience in maritime dispute resolution and admiralty, capital markets and securities domestically and abroad (particularly in the USA and UK), investments, corporate law and transactions, business & corporate law, banking and finance, restructuring and insolvency.

Nicholas is regularly instructed in relation to maritime claims. He has a rare level of expertise in supervising on and coordinating litigation and enforcement in multi-jurisdictional disputes. Through a network of international law firms, Nicholas has arrested vessels in over 50 jurisdictions and has repeatedly coordinated litigation on the merits and enforcement. Notwithstanding his extensive litigation experience, Nicholas is also well known for being clear and commercial, delivering practical advice and quickly resolving disputes in the most effective and cost efficient manner. Nicholas has also extensive experience in advising maritime companies for international capital market and financial transactions, corporate governance and structure. With a strong understanding of the market and the law, Nicholas has represented a wide range of clients of the maritime sector and assisted international law firms acting for underwriters on IPOs and follow-on offerings (NYSE, NASDAQ, AIM, ASE) and has advised a number of listed shipping companies on SEC and other Capital Market Authorities reporting and financing matters and M&As. He has also been involved in the establishment of family foundations and trusts and in a number of high-profile domestic and international buyout transactions outside the maritime sector.

Prior to joining the firm in 2010, Nicholas worked for seven years at Timagenis Law Firm. During his legal studies and right after graduation, Nicholas worked as a trainee in boutique law firms in Thessaloniki and Piraeus with a focus in general litigation and penal law. He has also served for a short period as a Director of the Hellenic Army Shipping Custom Clearances Office and thereafter he was appointed in charge of the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Hellenic Ministry of Defence. He has also experience in coordinating international teams for preparing projects for SME’s and Banks, including a strategic business plan for the expansion of a leading Greek Bank in the Balkans Region in the early 00’s. Nicholas is admitted in Piraeus and is qualified to practise before the Court of Appeal.

Education

Nicholas graduated the School of Law of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1999) and holds an MBA from ALBA Graduate Business School (2002). He has also received a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management for Economists from the Athens University (2003), a Post Graduate Diploma in Corporate Reengineering from the Hellenic Management Association (2005) and a Post Graduate Certificate in SME’s Management & Consultancy from the Athens University (2007). Nicholas has attended several conferences and lectures in the areas of his practice. With a particular interest in securities/capital markets and business related matters, Nicholas has also attended a number of seminars in these areas.
